Douglas Leon Senior center has been serving the elderly community for over 20 years. the center provides a wide variety of programs, activities and support services for seniors 60 years and older. The Center offers a hot, nutritionally balanced noon meal, which is prepared and cooked on the premises. 

The program is geared towards providing social interaction between the senior participants by the activity coordinator. Seniors participate in dominoes, checkers, bingo, card games and pool table. In addition our program extends assistance in counseling, information and referral. Health, Nutrition and consumer education is imperative in invoking awareness to a variety of problems and their prevention and solution.

Nutrition:

The program provides meals to approximately 105 individuals a day. The meals are prepared on site with input from seniors as to the types of meals they like to see offered. With the Approval of the programs Nutritional Consultant every effort is made to appease our participants ethnic food preferences.

Requirements:

  • Eligibility

    The Senior Lunch program serves bronx residents over the age of 60 (and their accompanying spouse, regardless of age) who are interested in staying healthy, learning new information and skills, making new friends, and having fun.

  • Cost of Service

    Participants are asked to share in the cost of the service through voluntary donations.  A $1 donation per lunch is suggested, but no one is denied service due to an inability to contribute.
